In winter season we want to eat something that keeps us warm inside out. When in winter season cold weather outside our metabolism become slows down. To keep our body warm and full of energy we eat these healthy nutritious foods. Here are the list of easily accessible food items keep in your kitchen.
WINTER SEASON HEALTHY FOODS
Wheat,corn flour( makai), pearl millet(bajra), oatmeal
These are full of fiber and complex carbs. The body requires more energy to break down these carbs. Our body thermogenesis increases after eating these foods.
Add dried figs, apricots and dates in your winter diet. Nuts are a rich source of antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals. Make your chikkis and laddus with full of nuts. Mix powder nuts with honey in warm milk to keep you energize.
Dry fruits like almonds, cashews, raisins and pastas are a great source of energy. Drink milk with dried fruit powder provide us lots of vitamin and minerals. They give warmth in the winter season.
Seasame or Til
If do not add sesame in our winter foods means something is lacking. We add them in a variety of foods. We make chicks, laddus or Sajak’s with jaggery. To keep our body warm we eat them daily in the winter season.
Ginger improves immune system function. Due to antioxidant properties fight against cold and flu. You drink ginger tea or with honey keep us warm in cold weather. Add a small quantity of ginger in your daily diet.
Lean beef, poultry, and pork are low in saturated fat. They are a rich source of iron. People with cold extremities are deficient in minerals. Although there are plant-based sources of iron but body absorbs more iron from animal sources.
The demand for egg supply increases during the winter season. They are a power house of energy. Rich source of protein and vitamins keeps the body away from infections.
Everyone likes coffee whether it hot or cold. The temperature of the coffee is not important for us. Caffeine found in coffee increases our metabolism by releasing fatty acids from fat stores of our body. Due to this our body temperature increases. We feel warm inside out.
Turmeric prevents free radical damage. It fights against infection and inflammation. You can drink warm milk with a pinch of turmeric.
In winter season fresh jaggery is available. It is rich in vitamins and minerals. Boost the immunity and keep the body warm. Eating jaggery with sesame seeds prevents us from respiratory problems. It contains complex carb so gives energy slowly for a longer time. You can eat jaggery with ginger or a glass of warm milk.
Mustard oil is good for health. It has antibacterial, antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties. It is a rich source of micronutrients. Winter food should be cooked in mustard oil. It improves the metabolism of body to keep us warm.
Eat food items which keep the heart healthy. Garlic contains potassium, calcium and sulfuric compounds acts as antibacterial. Most of the heart attacks occur in the winter season. Garlic controls the blood pressure. It lowers the bad cholesterol. Keeps us warm and energetic in this cold weather.
Pure ghee is not our enemy. It’s healthy fat keeps us warm and fit. Add one teaspoon of ghee in your daily diet. It cuts down your bad fat. Rich source of antioxidants so helps in absorption of other nutrients.
Roots and leafy vegetables
Beets, carrots, and turnips are rich sources of vitamin A and C. Cruciferous vegetables like broccoli and cauliflower are rich in Vit C. They boost your immune function. Mix them in our vegetables and soups.
Turnips are rich in folates, fiber, vitamins, and minerals. Spinach is the healthiest vegetable. It has lots of nutrients.
Carrots have the highest amount of beta-carotene. Rich source of vitamin B, E, D, BlackpepperK. Eat them raw or make tasty gazar ka halwa.
Nutmeg, cinnamon, hing, blackpepper
Spices have antioxidant and antibacterial properties. They keep the body warm in winter season. Helps in controlling cold, cough and sinusitis.
Spices are full of warmth but nutmeg on the top.
Orange, papaya, banana, amla. Banana is a rich source of vitamin B and magnesium. Helps thyroid and adrenal glands in regulating the body temperature. Oranges and amla rich source of vitamin C and low in calories.
